Bagshot & Lightwater
Come and join me Grace the hedgehog and my amazing team for a fantastic day of fun and hogucation at the Red Lion Pub garden in Lightwater on Saturday 9th June between 10am and 4pm and fiind out how to make Lightwater and Bagshot Hedgehog Friendly.
Lightwater and Bagshot to become hedgehog Friendly Villages
Come and Meet Grace the Hedgehog and her friends at the Red Lion in Lightwater on Saturday 9th June 2018 10 am to 4 pm
Lightwater and Bagshot residents are being invited to make their villages ‘Hedgehog Friendly’ by a 7 foot tall hedgehog called Grace!
Local wildlife charity Harper Asprey Wildlife Rescue is working hard to make Surrey Heath the first ‘Hedgehog Friendly” Borough in Britain.
Hedgehogs have been voted Britain’s favourite wild animal and were even suggested to be our national symbol - but they are in massive decline - with populations dropping by an alarming 33% since the year 2000.
Queen guitarist and Save Me Trust , Dr Brian May said: “It is shocking that Hedgehogs could face extinction in the UK”. “We must unite and give these wonderful creatures a chance”.
Grace Days are fun days for all the family. Come and meet Grace and her friends and learn more about making your garden ‘Hedgehog Friendly”.
There will be stalls with hedgehog gifts and a raffle prize to win a framed hedgehog print signed by Brian May.
Anne Brummer, trustee of Harper Asprey Wildlife Rescue said: “We have lots of tips and advice on planting, access and how to make your garden a safe, natural place for hedgehogs to live. These Grace days are incredibly popular - and so much fun. There is so much to do for all the family - you can relax and enjoy some of Kerri and Jason’s wonderful food, whilst the kids can be safe in the wonderful garden at the Red Lion - Why not come and see for yourself?”
Anne continued “Of course, there is a serious side to this, hedgehogs are in massive decline across the UK, so we are asking everyone to do some simple things in their own gardens, because, if everyone did something - things would be much better for the local hedgehogs in Lightwater and Bagshot”
The Amazing Grace campaign is run by Harper Asprey Wildlife Rescue and supported by British Hedgehog Preservation Society and Dr Brian May’s Save Me Trust. It has already made Windlesham - Surrey’s first hedgehog friendly village and is currently working in Heatherside and Parkside. On Saturday, 9th June - we’ll begin making Lightwater and Bagshot ‘Hedgehog Friendly” - but they will be visiting every ward in Surrey Heath Borough soon.
